What’s the guide for Eatwell?
The Eatwell Guide for Public Health England is the healthy eating model of the UK. It is a simple, practical tool that helps us make healthy choices and shows the proportions that make up a healthy, balanced diet for different food groups.
Who is covered by the Eatwell Guide?
Regardless of weight, dietary preferences, ethnic origin, religious or cultural beliefs, the Governments ‘ Eatwell Guide is suitable for most people in the UK. It does not apply to children under the age of two, however, as they have different nutritional needs. The proportions shown in the Eatwell Guide should gradually begin to eat the same foods as the rest of the family.
When am I allowed to use the Eatwell Guide?
The Eatwell guide can be used on many occasions to help you make Healthier choices, including:
- When cooking at home
- When shopping for food
- When deciding what to eat for a meal or snack
- When eating out in a restaurant, café or canteen
What about dishes that are mixed? Many of the dishes we eat include many ingredients in the Eatwell Guide which are combinations of food groups. These are known as composite foods and include things such as:
